Green Hedges seeks a part-time Learning Specialist with a solid background in educating young children, identifying learning differences and disabilities, and providing remedial support. Green Hedges is a private independent preschool through Grade 8 school with approximately 180 students. The School is located in Vienna, VA, fourteen miles west of Washington, DC.
Requirements: A successful candidate for the Learning Specialist position will have a Masters degree or beyond in Special Education (or a related field), training or certification in a variety of remedial approaches in reading and math, and ability to administer diagnostic tests for learning differences and styles. Expertise in early elementary and elementary learning benchmarks, acquisition, and production in all areas of Language Arts and Mathematics is essential.
The ideal candidate will have • Training in Orton-Gillingham, Barton, and Wilson reading approaches • Experience working with and supporting teachers in the classroom • Five years minimum experience in the field
The Learning Specialist will:
Manage diagnostic psycho-educational testing on file and create summaries and action plans for students with diagnosed learning disabilities.
Assist teachers in meeting student needs in the classroom and differentiating instruction to meet a range of learning styles and abilities.
Meet with teachers and parents to help determine if, when, and what type of diagnostic testing is necessary to identify possible learning disabilities in a student who is having out of the ordinary difficulties meeting learning or behavioral expectations in the classroom.
Meet regularly with student-support and grade-level teams
Provide ongoing faculty and parent professional development around topics of interest
