About Napa Valley Youth Symphony
Napa Valley Youth Symphony (NVYS) was founded in 2003 by a small group of parents in the Napa Valley and conductor Ming Luke. The organization has grown from 33 students to 75 plus, and one premier orchestra to two ensembles; Sinfonia, our training orchestra for advanced beginners, and NVYS, our premier orchestra for more advanced players. We also have the Napa Youth Chamber Ensemble, our chamber group, and the Bridge ensemble which offers additional coaching for students wishing to build skills to move from Sinfonia to NVYS, both led by our head coach, Yasushi Ogura. We also host an annual Chamber Camp at the Jarvis Conservatory in August. NVYS tours every other year domestically and internationally in June-early July. We primarily recruit and serve youth 8-18 years old who live in the Napa Valley. We value and actively support diversity, equity and inclusion in all areas of our organization.
The Napa Valley Youth Symphony provides young musicians from diverse backgrounds exciting opportunities for personal and artistic growth through challenging and inspiring rehearsal and performances in a professional environment, while enhancing our community educationally and artistically.
