Blue School is currently looking for a Middle School Psychologist/Social Worker focused on grades 6-8. We seek an experienced person who is open and reflective, team-oriented, knowledgeable, and a great communicator. The Psychologist/Social Worker will report to the Middle School Director and will work closely with the middle school team. This position will be 10-20 hours per week.
This role will provide support for middle school children, teachers, and families where there are special emotional, behavioral and learning needs.
Specifically, the Psychologist/Social Worker will:
Serve as the primary point person for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade families whose children demonstrate special emotional, behavioral and, when appropriate, academic needs.
Collaborate with the Middle School Director to develop appropriate student support structures, to respond to emerging needs of the community.
Conduct observations of students as needed.
Conduct brief, initial assessments when appropriate, as needed.
Conduct informational Roundtables for parents on a set of topics, set annually, with other administrators.
Collaborate with the Health and Wellness teacher to develop specific curriculum and carry out instruction.
Hold small support groups for students (e.g., Banana Splits; Students with Learning Differences; etc)
Participate in the community’s efforts to hold and sustain identity based small groups for parents and families (Parents of Children with Learning Differences; International Parents/ Families Group; LGBTQ+ parents and Families Group; Parents/ Families of color Group, etc).
Help teachers interpret and incorporate recommendations from neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations.
Attend student support meetings and collaborate with the team on children of concern
Provide support for families or children in crisis including risk assessment, safety planning, and referrals.
Provide emotional support for teachers in the middle school, including referrals for outside providers.
Evaluate and respond to the needs of the community in times of increased stress and crisis within the school community due to factors internal and external to the community (e.g., illness/accident/ death in community; civic unrest; gun violence, etc).
Participate in parent communication and meetings as needed or required to fulfill the above.
Education and Experience:
MS in social work; PhD/ PsyD in psychology
Experience working in schools with early adolescents, collaboration with teachers, parents, etc.
Experience/ expertise working with children with LDs, ADHD; versed in accommodations/ modifications
