The Burgundy library functions as the curricular center of the school and is staffed by two librarians, one that is full-time and another at 50%, aided by parent volunteers. It contains over 18,000 items, including books, videos, and online databases, and has a monthly circulation in excess of 2,000 items.
Technology and library services are integrated at Burgundy. The librarians team with two full time technology personnel from the attached computer lab. The library and technology center are centrally located in one building, which is a hub for teaching and learning at Burgundy. Classes come to the library regularly on a fixed and/or flexible schedule depending on grade level. Both librarians are responsible for teaching library classes and collaborating with classroom and content area teachers in early childhood, elementary, and middle school. Class and grade level responsibilities are divided and shared based on interest and prior experience. This position is 50% time.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan and teach weekly library classes JK-3
Attend building meetings for curriculum and program alignment
Make recommendations for ordering
Staff circulation desk, shelve books, process magazines and discarded materials, cover and repair books, printing and distributing overdue notices
Help students, teachers, and parents locate books
Gather resources for classes or help full-time librarian in doing so
Support librarian with inventory, weeding, collection development
Create book displays and bulletin board displays
Help maintain and improve organization of the library as a shared space
The successful candidate should be a collaborative, creative, flexible, and energetic lifelong learner who values ongoing professional growth. They should demonstrate a love of children’s literature and an interest in integrating technology, and enjoy working with students and teachers. Applicants should possess excellent organizational skills, be attentive to detail, and ideally have prior experience working in a school library and teaching early childhood, elementary, or middle school students.
