The Visual Arts Program/Arts and Humanities Pathway of Tidewater Community College is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant to provide administrative support in the front office. The successful candidate shall possess office experience, preferably in an academic setting. Confidentiality is a must as the successful candidate will have access to confidential information. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, organized and interested in learning the state procurement system. Must have the ability to change priorities as needed, work independently, and read and create Excel documents and other correspondence as requested. This position will:
  • Maintain accurate/detailed files as related to purchasing, expenditures, inventories, and student data.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies from the college warehouse.
  • Prepare meeting minutes and outgoing correspondence.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings.
  • Work with other departments throughout the college.
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills while interacting with a variety of constituencies such as students, faculty, staff, and Administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
  • Resourceful and able to work independently in the absence of supervisor.
  • Moderate to excellent ability to use the applications in the Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Outlook, Adobe PDF, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and keep databases for use in tracking information such as confidential student data, fiscal expenditures, and inventories.
