We are seeking a part-time Research Acupuncturist to join the Greenlee Studies group under the direction of Dr. Heather Greenlee , a member of the Public Health Sciences and Clinical Research Divisions and Medical Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at SCCA. Dr. Greenlees research program uses both clinical trials and observational studies to examine a broad range of lifestyle modifications (diet, physical activity, weight management) and complementary/integrative therapies for cancer prevention and control, especially in under-resourced and vulnerable populations.
Hours: Variable, estimating 4-15 hours per week, depending on study needs. As research patient schedules are variable, there is not a guaranteed number of minimum hours per week. Availability on Wednesdays and Fridays required; availability on additional days preferred. Responsibilities The Research Acupuncturist will: - Deliver standardized acupuncture protocols to cancer patients who are participants in clinical trials.
- Be trained on the study protocol by research team members.
- Perform acupuncture, collect clinical data during the acupuncture treatment sessions, and participate in research team meetings to coordinate acupuncture research activities.
The acupuncture clinic sessions will take place at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, University of Washington Medical Center and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Qualifications - Doctorate/Post-Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM/DAOM) from an Accredited Institution
- 3+ years acupuncture experience, including demonstrated clinical experience with cancer and/or other critically ill populations and appropriate acupuncture techniques utilized for management of symptoms and treatment side effects
- Ability to navigate organizational complexity within academic, research and/or multi-modal health systems
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong aptitude and enthusiasm for establishing patient rapport, delivery of patient education and explaining acupuncture treatment services
- Strength in developing, organizing and sustaining written procedures and documentation
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems
- Self-awareness and a professional demeanor
- Licensed by the NCCAOM
- Must be a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Washington or meet criteria to obtain Washington State license
Preferred Qualifications: - Additional clinical degree or certification (RD, LMT, RN, MA, MSW, etc.)
- Clinical research experience, including development of clinical trial protocols, interpreting data, and publishing manuscripts
- Training in Chinese herbal medicine
- Process improvement experience (lean leader, six-sigma, continuous performance improvement, etc.)
- Familiarity with medical insurance payment administration, and acupuncture coverage determination
