The Anoka County Historical Society has partnered with FCC to preserve documents, images, film, and artifacts saved from the last century in preparation for their 100th anniversary in 2022. ACHS seeks a dedicated intern to assist with the processing of this collection, which includes 90 document boxes, oversize artifacts, and framed objects. The collection is composed of multiple types of materials, including documents, photographs, still image film, moving image film, printing plates, framed artwork, prints, large artifacts (wooden, metal, and plastic), and a small selection of vintage ammunition.
The anniversary project will culminate in a community-wide celebration, physical and online exhibit, programming, video production, coffee table book, and a special interest publication magazine.
At the ACHS campus, collections work will include:
“Weeding”, sorting, and numbering of FCC materials according to ACHS processing guidelines
Assisting in the curation of a historical display at ACHS
Assistance in storing and cataloging FCC materials into the online database, Collective Access
At the FCC campus, collections work will include:
Transferring “Doc’s” collection from off-site to its next home
Curating a historical display at Federal
Assist in searching digital servers and physical folders to find historical materials from the digital blackout period (years 2000 to 2020
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate for this position will be working toward (or already received) a master’s degree in Archiving and Collections Management or Library Science. They will enjoy corporate history and processing a special collection for future public display and research. They can work well independently and have the skills necessary to receive training and apply it to next steps in the project.
PREFERRED SKILLS They will exhibit attention to detail, a willingness to learn on the job, the ability to follow ACHS processing guidelines, excellent decision-making skills, and a self-driven work ethic. This position is ideal for anyone with an interest in archival processing, business archives, historical materials, or museum archives.
Additional Salary Information: Stipend of $3,000 for total of 240 hours (12 weeks @ 20 hours per week)
