New York Military Academy is a private boarding and day school for grades 7-12 located in the Hudson Valley, New York. The Academy maintains a rigorous academic environment supported by military tradition and structure. NYMA’s Tactical Officers are residential counselors responsible for the daily care and supervision of students before and after the scheduled academic day, as well as overnight and weekends. Key responsibilities include ensuring the health, safety, morale, training, well-being and growth of students. There are also opportunities to participate in other facets of the Academy’s broader education program, including special programs, summer camps, coaching and student mentorship/enrichment.
The Academy currently has openings for part time, weekend, and 10-month positions (September- May).Standard weekend shifts are 6 AM to 6 PM or 6 PM to 6AM. Some variation in shift scheduling may be required, as determined by school activities.
The Ideal Candidate will:
Have experience in a school setting, residential setting, or summer camp working with students grades 7-12, military or JROTC experience a plus;
Be attentive, engaged and able to function effectively in an active environment;
Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Be responsive and able to communicate respect, care and concern for students while simultaneously maintaining adherence to NYMA rules and policies;
Model character and leadership, setting an example to NYMA students.
Regular Responsibilities Include:
Train, advise, counsel and supervise students in the conduct of daily duties;
Maintain 100% accountability/supervision of students;
Complete accurate written documentation regarding daily activities;
Supervise and participate in special events and activities, such as intramural sports, off campus outings, and community service.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
High School Diploma, 2 year/4 year degree preferred;
Military experience and/or participation/ coaching experience in sports and/or significant experience working with adolescent youth;
Eligible to work in the United States;
Current, valid NYS driver’s license;
Clean driving record and comprehensive background check. Driving record must be deemed insurable by NYMA insurance providers.
Physical Work Conditions:
Walking, sitting at a desk, lifting (1-30 pounds) and frequent movement about buildings and about the campus. Ascending and descending stairs while supervising students at various locations.
