Oakwood School in Northern Virginia is now accepting applications for a Part-Time Art Teacher with appropriate training to serve Elementary to Middle School students with learning disabilities. Teacher licensure in Art or a related field is preferred. A basic understanding of multisensory teaching methods, diverse learning styles, and specific strategies for teaching students with learning needs and dyslexia is required.
The Oakwood School Art Teacher instructs students in appreciating a variety of art, developing skills and techniques using various mediums, expressing themselves through art, and encouraging creativity. Integrating the arts into other areas of the curriculum is a crucial goal in this position. Art is an important avenue for self-expression and building self-esteem, as well as understanding one’s self as a learner.
An appropriate candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum for elementary through middle school-aged students with learning disabilities that ties into the overall school curriculum and philosophy, adapt activities and lessons to accommodate the wide range of skill sets and abilities of the students, and provide feedback to classroom teachers about student performance and needs as part of the teaching team.

Oakwood School Covid-19 Mitigation Plan
Oakwood School has spent the 2020-2021 school year successfully operating an in-person program. Our facility has had multiple upgrades designed to increase air filtration and circulation, students and faculty wear masks at all times, and practice social distancing. These adaptations, along with a community dedicated to each other’s health and wellness, have allowed us to continue offering in-person instruction. In addition, for 2021-2022, Oakwood School will not offer a hybrid or concurrent learning model. All students and faculty will be on campus.
