![]() COMM SPEC 3 (Communications Lead) Department Description Provides marketing and communications services for the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, with periodic support of its centers and two academic departments. May assist other campus units/clients, if time is available, with specific recharge rate(s) and account. JOB SUMMARY Manages communications for the Robert Mondavi Institute, with supplemental support of its related Centers and Departments. Plans, schedules, and executes the institute's communications and marketing campaigns, maintains the website, and is involved in the design of its publications and other materials. Creates written and visual communications across a variety of platforms that inform, instruct, and or influence the way people perceive RMI programs and the Institute using knowledge of communications strategy, design, writing, and graphical elements. Applies current practices, policies, and procedures to complete projects and exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to accomplish goals. This work is carried out under the general direction of the Director, and includes creation and distribution of event promotion campaigns, newsletter communication pieces, social media posts, website content and design. Develops content to promote programs and events geared to engage public audiences, business leaders, government officials, students, friends, and other groups. Assists with conceptual input on events and programs. Collaborates with other communications leads across campus on programs and initiatives that advance the Institute's goals. POSITION INFORMATION PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Sit at computer for extended periods of time. - Move/manipulate supplies and equipment of various weights (up to 25 lbs.) using a cart and/or hand truck. WORK ENVIRONMENT - Work in area where there is frequent noise from visitors, office machines, telephones, and conversations, printers, etc. - Valid CA driver's license to travel on and off campus. - Subject to DMV pull notice. - Work flexible hours and occasional overtime to meet operational needs. - UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space. QUALIFICATIONS Required: -Bachelor's degree in communications or related areas, including marketing and branding, journalism, or public relations and/or equivalent experience/training. -Work-related experience in communications or related areas, including marketing and branding, journalism, or public relations -Ability to craft messages that are appealing to the public, business leaders, government officials and students, based on technical information. -Ability to develop strategic marketing and communication messages related to the Institute's mission and goals. -Writing, editing, and proofreading skills to produce written materials that reflect the high standards and professionalism of an executive office. -Experience working as a digital producer, digital content manager, or content strategist for multimedia web publications, including email marketing, website management, social media management, desktop publishing, and image management. -Experience producing accurate, creative, timely communication pieces, electronically and on paper, in an environment with multiple projects and tight deadlines Preferred: -Understand the importance of university research, education, and outreach, and possess an ability to effectively communicate the significance and value of the university's programs to a variety of audiences. -Skills to produce or direct the production of visually attractive print and electronic publications, including experience with appropriate software, i.e. Adobe products. -Experience analyzing situations on strategic communications in a higher education environment. -Skills in creating and maintaining an image database. -Skills to interact effectively with a culturally diverse workforce, including students, staff, faculty, donors, alumni and high level administrators. -Familiarity with the Associated Press stylebook and UC policies, including editorial and graphical style guidelines SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Background Check This position is a critical position and subject to a background check.
