Position Overview: Lick-Wilmerding High School seeks a part time Instrumental Music Teacher to begin in August 2021. This is a 80% position with three classes, including student advisor role. The position has the potential for growth in the future.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create relevant written and listening/aural assignments, develop projects and assessments as well as supplementary lessons to support student growth and motivation.
  • Plan, produce, and execute music and performing arts concerts/performances live and potentially in virtual environments.
  • Direct daily ensemble rehearsals 
  • Maintain student records on the school LMS 
  • Adapt and arrange music for unusual instrumental combinations; 
  • Adapt (as needed) and implement a progressive and  inclusive instrumental music curriculum 
  • Audition, interview and manage all instrumental music course placement and enrollment
  • Work collaboratively with members of Performing Arts departments and other constituents
  • Attend faculty meetings and perform duties as directed by the head of school 
  • Serve as an academic advisor   

Masters Degree in Music Performance or Music Education with an instrumental emphasis desired;
Bachelors' Degree in Music Performance or Music Education (secondary emphasis) required

Additional skills and attributes desired:

  • Experience teaching  at the hIgh school Level 
  • Professional performance level as an instrumentalist
  • Ability to provide technical instruction to instrumentalists on standard orchestral and band/jazz instruments.
  • Proficiency with basic music technology & notation platforms and Learning Management Systems. 
  • Ability to adapt and arrange music for unusual instrumental combinations;  
  • Basic piano proficiency 
  • Demonstrate efficient rehearsal methods and the ability to maintain  a positive rehearsal atmosphere  
  • Demonstrate effective conducting technique 
  • Abilty to conduct/idrect a pit orchestra
  • Possess a genuine interest in and appreciation for high school age students.
  • A commitment to equity and culturally responsive instruction
