The Long Ridge School, an independent school for children age 2 to grade 5, is seeking a Teacher for the two-year-old, (Beginners), program. The program runs for two, three or five mornings, with the students attending from 9-11:45. An afternoon extended day option is available to parents. Part-time and full-time positions are available. At The Long Ridge School, the teachers foster all of our students’ innate curiosity and natural tendencies to wonder, explore, hypothesize, and experiment. Through guided play, and a theme-based curriculum, our youngest learners are encouraged to develop their receptive and expressive language skills, build background knowledge, and begin to connect socially with their teachers and their peers. For our youngest learners, language development is a primary goal, and the teachers provide a variety of opportunities for growth in this important arena. To facilitate a broad base of learning, the children spend time both outside in their own outdoor play area, and inside their own specially equipped classroom. The large indoor double classroom provides safe areas in which to climb and move around freely. The children can build, engage in pretend play, create artwork, write and draw, explore sand and water, occasionally cook, and freely explore, and listen to books read aloud by the teachers. They are also exposed to the broader school community through weekly visits to the music room, the gym, and the library. At Long Ridge even the youngest students are encouraged to observe, to question, and to make discoveries. With a hands-on, experiential approach, a well-planned curriculum, and supportive teachers the youngest Long Ridge students build a strong foundation for learning.
