Department OPTOMETRY (BL-OPT-IUBLA) Job Summary In conjunction with other Office Services Assistant positions, this position serves as one of the points-of contact individuals for the School of Optometry, Atwater Eye Care Center, and Indianapolis Eye Care Center. This position works exclusively in a centralized call center. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering incoming calls, creating patient accounts in the electronic medical records system, Position Inquiry collection of insurance data, scheduling patient appointments, and triage of ocular emergencies and coordinating care. Field and respond to general inquiries as well as patient satisfaction comments. Use of multi-line telephone software system. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in medical scheduling. Hands-on experience with a practice management system. Customer service experience. Understanding of medical chart maintenance and insurance. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer service orientation and ability to work well with a wide range of diverse clientele in a diplomatic manner. Good organizational skills including ability to perform multiple/concurrent tasks in a busy interactive environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining confidentiality in all capacities to comply with federal and state regulations. Intermediate computer skills including with software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to deliver excellent patient care and demonstrate a team attitude. Working Conditions / Demands Confidentiality required in all capacities of responsibilities. Work Hours Scheduling unit hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. This position may be scheduled up to 29 hours per week.
