Harvard Business School is seeking a half-time Research Associate for one year or more, beginning in the new year. The Research Associate (RA) will assist with the daily operations of research projects for a faculty member in the Accounting & Management Unit. The broad research agenda will focus on financial misconduct, government regulation and enforcement, corporate governance, and behavioral biases in financial markets.
The RA position reports directly to faculty supervisor and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. The ideal RA candidate will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.
Primary duties:
Under the general direction of faculty member, the RA will develop, design and conduct research projects; synthesize, analyze, produce statistical models and original written materials; contribute to scholarly research products including but not limited to journal articles, working papers, existing cases, and presentations.
Collect, manage, and manipulate data using a variety of tools and sources, including but not limited to Excel, Stata, R, and/or Python. Develop, synthesize, and provide analysis of data exhibits for academic journal articles, HBS cases and HBS teaching notes.
Independently manage all timelines and deliverables. Exercise independent decision making with regard to progression of research project and methodologies. Must be able to structure assignments and keep faculty member informed as necessary, using own judgment.
Ensure compliance with department, University, and federal regulations. Complete work with only general direction. Be aware of department, School, University policies and potential outside research policies.

This is a half-time term appointment starting as soon as possible (start date flexible) through June 30, 2021. All Research Associate roles at HBS are structured as one-year term appointments with potential for renewal. Half-time positions are benefits-eligible and can be paired to create a full-time role.
