Regular Full-time, Pay Grade 00 There is an immediate opening for a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at The University of Tennessee - Knoxville (UTK). The position will involve supporting a Consolidated Nuclear Services (CNS; Y-12 National Security Complex, Oak Ridge, TN) project focused on Plant-Directed Research and Development (PDRD). The specific PDRD project of interest focuses on developing a fundamental understanding of powder packing phenomena associated with ceramic powder processing (phenomena of interest include disparate hardness and size effects, energetic ball-milling effects, and compaction and sintering phenomena). The project involves both experiment and theoretical validation. Experiments involve studies of powder consolidation using varying degrees of force, temperature, and pressure. On the theory side, substantial effort will be devoted to validating phenomenological models for predicting the packing densities associated with multiple material constituents mixed in different ratios.
